The National Weather Service in Juneau has cancelled the Wind
Chill Advisory. The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect until
6 PM akst Friday.
Breezy north winds combined with cold temperatures are generating
wind chill to 35 below zero through Thursday afternoon. The
coldest temperatures will be in the chilkat valley. Areas of
drifting snow along the Haines Highway at times
Exposed skin in the warning area can become frostbitten in 30 minutes.
If you must be outdoors... be sure to cover all exposed skin.
Snow will continue through Friday afternoon. Snowfall of 1 to 2
feet with locally higher amounts is likely by Friday afternoon.
A warning means that a winter storm is already occurring or
imminent. This storm could pose a threat to life and property.
This statement will be updated by 9 PM akst tonight or sooner if
conditions warrant.
