... Unsettled and wet pattern possible next week...
A series of storm systems is forecast to impact the area next
week... with the potential to bring cooler and wet conditions to
southwest California.
Cooler and cloudy conditions will likely develop on Monday ahead
of the storm system... with precipitation possibly moving over the
area as early as Monday afternoon or Monday night. Periods of rain
should develop over the area on Tuesday... possibly creating
hazardous conditions to the burn areas of southwest California.
Rain will likely continue at least through mid week... with colder
air pushing into the area by Wednesday. It is possible that the
snow level may lower to near 6000 feet. Mainly high elevation
snow is expected for the Los Angeles and Ventura County
mountains. However... localized snowfall accumulation could occur
on the passes of Highway 2 in the Los Angeles County
mountains... and Highway 33 in the Ventura County mountains.
By late week... a colder storm system is expected to impact
southwest California. While the trajectory and timing of this
system is uncertain... cooler temperatures are likely to
develop... with another chance of precipitation affecting the area
through late next week. As this system will be much colder... there
is a possibility that snow levels could lower to below 5000
ft... affecting portions of the Interstate 5 corridor.
Residents living below the recent burn areas should monitor
forecast for the potential for heavy rains through the
period... possibly leading to debris flows. If traveling into or
out of southern and central California next week... it is advised
that travelers prepare accordingly and add extra travel time to
get to their destinations safely and timely.
