... Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 am EST Thursday...
... Winter Storm Warning is cancelled...
The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for freezing rain... sleet and snow... which is in
effect until 7 am EST Thursday. The Winter Storm Warning has been
canceled.
A complex storm system will continue to impact the eastern
Catskills... Mid Hudson valley... Berkshires and Litchfield Hills
through tonight... mainly across the higher terrain.
Little if any additional ice accretion will take place as
temperatures have generally reached above the freezing mark.
However... untreated roads and surfaces will likely remain very
slick. A mixture of sleet... rain and freezing rain will continue
to fall across the region into the evening hours.
Later this evening... as colder air wraps in... any mixed precipitation
will turn back to snow. Snowfall will accumulate around an inch in
the Mid Hudson valley and Litchfield County... to 2 to 4 inches
further north with the highest accumulations over the higher
terrain surrounding the capital district. Snow... accumulating on
power lines and trees... in conjunction with the minor coating of ice...
could still result in a few spotty power outages and make most
roads quite slippery once more.
This latest wintry precipitation event is the result of two storms
lifting northeastward across the region... which will then pull
away by late tonight.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
