Statement as of 8:25 PM CDT on May 21, 2013 ... Damage survey results for Hannibal... Missouri * maximum ef-scale rating: EF-1 * fatalities: 0 * injuries: 0 * begin time/location: 05/20/2013... 724 PM CDT... 39.6938/-91.4486 * end time/location: 05/20/2013... 726 PM... 39.7036/-91.4309 * maximum estimated wind speed: 90 mph * path length: 1.15 miles * maximum path width: 50 yards * discussion/damage: a small tornado damaged trees and one structure just southwest of Hannibal... about a mile south of Hannibal regional medical center. The tornado first damaged trees at the intersection of County roads 437 and 418. The tornado moved northeast and caused its most intense damage... low end EF-1... at the intersection of County Highway 418 and 437. In this area several large trees were either uprooted or snapped halfway up the trunk. The tornado moved northeast to Highway mm where it tore about one-quarter of the tin roofing off a farm building and damaged some trees. The tornado dissipated as it crossed Highway mm The thunderstorm continued east northeast and caused considerable wind damage in Hannibal. The damage area was roughly from Highway mm north to Hannibal/La Grange College. One building at the College had a portion of its roof torn off. Numerous trees were uprooted or snapped along Palmyra Road/mark Twain Avenue. A three story brick building in downtown Hannibal on Main Street had a wall collapse and about half of its roof torn off. Wind gusts in this area were likely around 100 mph. Tree damage was common west of the downtown area to Highway 61 and then west of 61 along West Ely. The subdivisions around Pioneer Lake and Apollo Lake had numerous large trees branches down. One home near Apollo Lake had windows broken by flying debris. A small building lost part of its roof on the south side of Hannibal near Highway 61 and Market street. This preliminary information was determined by a National Weather Service survey team and is subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in National Weather Service storm data.
