Lake Effect Snow Warning, Winter Storm Watch

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST
Friday...
... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning
through Sunday morning...

A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST
Friday. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday
morning through Sunday morning.

Plan on lake effect snow showers... heavy at times... overnight and
Friday. There is the potential for an intense lake effect snow
band... with snowfall rates of 2 inches per hour. As much as 5 to
10 inches of new snow is expected to fall overnight and Friday.
Expect the highest amounts from Twin Lakes to Painesdale. As winds
become southwest Friday... the heavier snow will shift north of
Houghton.

A clipper type low pressure system will pass through the area
Saturday... bringing another reinforcing shot of colder air. This
will create More Lake effect snow and strong winds Saturday and
Saturday night. Blowing and drifting snow with low visibilities
and up to 6 inches of snow are possible Saturday and Saturday
night.

A lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake
effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or
impossible. Lake effect snow showers typically align themselves
in bands and will likely be intense enough to drop 1 to several
inches of snow per hour for several hours. Visibilities vary
greatly and can drop to zero within minutes. Travel is strongly
discouraged. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor
the latest forecasts.
