Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning


The Flood Warning continues for
the Minnesota river at New Ulm.
* At 12:00 PM Tuesday the stage was 799.7 feet. Note these
readings are being impacted by ice.
Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 796.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 801.8 feet by
next Wednesday night March 24th. Additional rises are possible
thereafter.
* Flood history... this level compares to a previous crest of 799.8
feet on Apr 4 2009.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Cottonwood River at New Ulm.
* At 1:00 PM Tuesday the stage was 11.9 feet. This area has been
impacted by ice over the past several days.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 12.3 feet by
Thursday early afternoon March 18th. The river will fall below
flood stage Monday before midnight March 22nd. Additional rises
are possible thereafter.
* Impact... at 13.0 feet... Cottonwood street west of the river becomes
flooded.
* Flood history... this level compares to a previous crest of 13.9 feet
on Mar 14 2007.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Minnesota river at Mankato.
* At 1:00 PM Tuesday the stage was 18.1 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Saturday morning March 20th and
continue to rise to near 22.2 feet by Saturday evening. The river will
fall below flood stage by Sunday evening March 21st. Additional rises
are possible thereafter.
* Impact... at 22.0 feet... dike patrolling begins in Mankato.
* Flood history... this level compares to a previous crest of 21.5 feet
on may 13 1993.

* Flood Warning for an ice jam and snow melt in...
Blue Earth County in south central Minnesota...
Brown County in south central Minnesota...
Faribault County in south central Minnesota...
Le Sueur County in south central Minnesota...
Martin County in south central Minnesota...
Nicollet County in south central Minnesota...
Sibley County in central Minnesota...
southwestern Scott County in east central Minnesota...
Waseca County in south central Minnesota...
Watonwan County in south central Minnesota...
western Carver County in east central Minnesota...

* until 400 PM CDT Wednesday

* at 330 PM CDT... emergency management and local law enforcement
continued to report flooding... with multiple reports of ice jams
resulting in flooded roads. Numerous County and township roads
have been closed. Conditions do seem to be improving and water
levels are beginning to recede... but additional drainage is
expected and the potential for more ice jams remains.

* In addition to rural areas... some other locations that
will experience flooding include New Ulm... St James... Blue
Earth... New Richland... Mapleton... Waseca... Janesville... and Mayer.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flooding of small creeks and streams... country roads... as well as
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams is expected.
