Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Sunday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Sunday.

* Location... portions of east central Kansas... west central and
central Missouri... including the cities of Paola...
Harrisonville... Clinton... Butler... Warrensburg... and Sedalia.

* Timing... rain will begin changing over to snow across east central
Kansas and west central Missouri overnight... with a period of
sleet or freezing rain as the transition takes place. The
transition will spread east into central Missouri by Saturday
morning. Snow will continue to fall through Saturday night and into
Sunday.

* Snow accumulations... total snow accumulations of 5 to 8
inches... with locally greater amounts... are likely by the time
precipitation ends Sunday afternoon. Snowfall may become heavy at
times within the stronger bands to produce locally higher amounts.

* Impacts... roads will become slick and hazardous with snow Saturday
through Sunday. Initially on Saturday... roads may be slushy but as
the snow amounts increase and temperatures drop Saturday
evening... snow packed roads will lead to very hazardous driving
conditions. In addition... strong north winds will cause blowing of
the snow which will also reduce visibilities. Motorists should
exercise extreme caution when traveling.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Motorists
should remain alert to changing weather conditions... and take
necessary precautions if travel is necessary.
