Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning


The Flood Warning continues for
the Park River at Grafton.
* Until Tuesday may 28... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 2:30 PM Tuesday the stage was 12.1 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and during the next 7 days... major
flooding is forecast.
* Major flood stage is 14.5 feet.
* Forecast... the river will rise to a crest near 16.5 feet sometime
Thursday mid-morning. The river will fall below flood stage Sunday
night.
* The river is forecast to crest at 16.5 on Thursday mid-morning
during this 7-day period.
* The heaviest rainfall amounts fell on the northern most part of the
basin. Storm totals of up to 9.5 inches have been reported from
non-official sources.
* The local drainage area of the Park River at Grafton is 470 square miles.
This local drainage area total does not include the area upstream of
homme dam... which has a drainage area of 230 square miles.
* Expect levels on the Park River at Grafton to approach 16.5 feet.
* Impact statement(s) - at 15.0 feet, storm sewer drains... armory.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
eastern Cavalier County in northeast North Dakota...
Pembina County in northeast North Dakota...
Walsh County in northeast North Dakota...

* until 300 PM CDT Thursday

* runoff from the excessive rainfall of the past 3 days will
continue to cause widespread overland flooding from central Walsh
County into western Pembina and far eastern Cavalier counties.

* Public and emergency managers reported between 5.50 and 9.50 inches
of rain has fallen along the Escarpment from Park River to Walhalla.

* Areas impacted include Edinburgh..Park River... Hoople... Crystal...
Cavalier... mountain... Walhalla... Milton and Olga.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around dont drown. Avoid driving on flooded roads. Most flood
related deaths occur in automobiles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Do
not enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to
escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.

continue to rise to near 37.0 feet by Saturday evening.
* Impact statement(s) - at 38.0 feet, moderate flood stage.

* At 11:15 am Tuesday the stage was 4.9 feet.
* Minor flood stage is 6.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Wednesday afternoon and
continue to rise to near 6.5 feet by Thursday early afternoon. The
river will fall below flood stage by Friday evening.
* The river is forecast to crest at 6.5 on Thursday early afternoon
during this 7-day period.
* Impact statement(s) - at 6.0 feet, Flood Warning stage... minor. Left
bank flooding. Bankfull stage.
