Excessive Heat Watch

... Excessive heat watch in effect from Monday afternoon through
Tuesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued an
excessive heat watch... which is in effect from Monday afternoon
through Tuesday evening.

* Heat index values... persistence of expected heat index values in
the mid 90s during the afternoon hours both Monday and Tuesday
has prompted the issuance of this watch. These values will be
about 5 degrees warmer than experienced of this Saturday
afternoon.

* Impacts... the first of the season long term muggy spell will
probably maximize its threatening conditions between 1 PM and 5 PM
both Monday and Tuesday. It may remain quite warm even until
sunset. Any thunderstorms may deliver temporary relief from the
forecast heat and humidity.

* Outlook... high humidity will continue into Wednesday but
temperatures should be slightly cooler because of considerable
cloudiness associated with an approaching cool front and
northward moving low pressure.

Precautionary/preparedness
actions...

An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot
temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and
high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in
which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay
in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and check up
on relatives and neighbors.
