Special Weather Statement

... Potential for more accumulating snowfall Tuesday night
and Wednesday across portions of north and central New Mexico...

An upper level low pressure system over the eastern Pacific Ocean
will push east into the Desert Southwest Tuesday night... and merge
with a second low pressure system diving south out of the northern
rockies. Rain showers and High Mountain snow showers are expected to
develop across the western half of New Mexico ahead of these systems
Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile... a strong cold front will dive south
through the eastern plains Tuesday night then into the Rio Grande
Valley Wednesday morning. Temperatures will tumble behind the cold
front... allowing rain to change to snow along the Central Mountain
chain... and the northeast and east Central Plains.

The exact track and strength of this wintry system is still highly
uncertain. However... the potential exists for moderate to heavy snow
accumulations across the higher terrain of the Central Mountain
chain... especially the Sangre de Cristo Mountains... and over the
northeast and east Central Plains late Tuesday night... Wednesday and
Wednesday evening. Those with travel plans across New Mexico are
urged to stay tuned to the latest weather forecasts.
