Lake Effect Snow Warning

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST this
afternoon...

* locations... Monroe County. Heaviest amounts expected near the
Lakeshore and in the eastern suburbs of Rochester.

* Timing... through late this afternoon.

* Accumulations... up to 2 inches through 6 am and 4 to 7 inches
today. Storm totals of 8 to 12 inches in persistent bands.

* Winds... northwest 10 to 20 mph.

* Visibilities... less than a quarter mile at times.

* Impacts... heavy lake effect snow will produce very difficult
travel at times with poor visibility and snow covered roads.
Gusty northwest winds will produce some blowing and drifting
snow especially in open areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions.

If you lose power and plan on running a generator... make sure
that the generator is located outdoors and is properly
ventilated. Space heaters should also be properly ventilated and
used only if they are operating properly. Make sure snow does not
block exhausts and fresh air intakes for high efficiency furnaces
and water heaters.

Special Statement

... Heavy lake effect snow continues...

Bands of moderate to heavy lake effect snow will continue through
daybreak across portions of Orleans... Monroe... and western Wayne
County. The most intense band will move from the western suburbs
of Rochester across downtown and into the eastern suburbs and
Lakeshore communities through 6 am. Snowfall rates within this
band are likely to reach 2 inches per hour.

Travel will be very difficult early this morning across the
greater Rochester area. Heavy snow will produce very low
visibility at times with snow covered roads. Motorists should be
prepared for severe winter driving conditions.
