The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
northern Lincoln County in southeast South Dakota
southern Minnehaha County in southeast South Dakota
western Lyon County in northwest Iowa

* until 730 am CDT

* at 119 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area. A
trained spotter reports rainfall of 4.69 inches so far in western
Sioux Falls. Doppler radar estimates widespread 3 to 5 inches over
the warned area... with locally higher amounts possible. Additional
rainfall is expected to move across the area through the early
morning hours.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Sioux
Falls... Alvord... Harrisburg... Larchwood... Lennox... Lester... Tea and
Worthing.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Do
not enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to
escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams... rivers... or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
