Special Weather Statement

... A bit of winter weather headed this way for late today and tonight...

A storm system currently over the Western Plains will approach
middle Tennessee today and move across the region tonight and Tuesday.
A mixture of rain and snow is expected to spread from west to east
across the mid state from late this afternoon through this evening.
A mixture of snow... sleet and freezing rain will prevail across
much of the area later tonight. Then as the weather system gets closer...
the lower layers of the atmosphere will cause temperatures to warm aloft
and change the "wintry mix" to all rain on Tuesday morning.

With temperatures forecast to remain above freezing... only minor
accumulations should occur... mainly on grassy areas and
overpasses. However... uncertainty remains concerning surface
temperatures tonight. This will determine exactly how much snow
accumulates and also whether freezing rain will occur.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and your local media for the
latest updates on this winter weather situation.
