Special Weather Statement

... Arctic air to settle into the panhandles this weekend with some
wintry precipitation expected as well...

An Arctic cold front will back southwest across the panhandles
tonight. This cold airmass will remain entrenched across the area
through the weekend... keeping high temperatures in the 20s to lower
30s on Saturday and in the upper 20s to upper 30s on Sunday. Low
temperatures will fall into the upper single digits and teens both
Saturday morning and Sunday morning... with wind chill readings
dropping to near or below zero.

Some flurries or very light snow will be possible at times late
tonight through Saturday night. Accumulations... if any... will be
very light and remain under one half inch. Some freezing fog will
also be possible tonight into Saturday morning and perhaps again
Saturday night into Sunday morning as an upslope flow persists
across the area.

Snow chances will increase on Sunday... mainly across the eastern
half to two thirds of the panhandles... as an upper level trough of
low pressure works in from the west. Chances for light snow will
then linger across the southeast half of the panhandles Sunday
night... and some freezing drizzle may also develop in the southeast
Texas Panhandle Sunday night. The heavier snowfall accumulations
Sunday and Sunday night are expected to be across the southeast Texas
Panhandle... where 1 to 3 inches will be possible. Accumulations up
to an inch are expected elsewhere. Any ice accumulations from the
light freezing drizzle across the southeast Sunday night are expected
to be minimal... but some slick spots could result on roadways. All
precipitation will move east of the panhandles by Monday morning.
There is a small possibility that some sleet or freezing rain could
mix with the snow on Sunday... primarily across the eastern
panhandles... if mid levels of the atmosphere warm more than currently
forecast. However... this appears unlikely at this time.

Stay tuned to any updates to the forecast over the next couple of
days by visiting our website at www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/Ama... following NWS
