Flood Warning


The Flood Warning continues for
the Chehalis river near Grand Mound
* until Saturday evening.
* At 9:00 PM Thursday the stage was 18.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring. The forecast is for major flooding.
* Forecast... the river will continue to rise and crest near 18.3 feet
around 10 PM Thursday. The river will fall below flood stage late
Saturday morning.
* Impact... at 17.5 feet... the Chehalis river in Thurston County will
cause major flooding... inundating roads and farm lands in
Independence Valley. Deep and swift flood waters will cover sr-12
and James... Independence and moon roads. Flooding will occur all
along the river including headwaters... tributaries... and other
streams within and near the Chehalis river basin.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Chehalis river at Centralia
* until Saturday afternoon.
* At 9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 72.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 65.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring. The forecast is for major flooding.
* Forecast... the river will continue to rise and crest near 72.5 feet
around 10 PM Thursday. The river will fall below flood stage early
Saturday morning.
* Impact... at 72.0 feet... the Chehalis river in Lewis County will
cause major flooding... inundating residential and commercial
areas... farms... and many roads including I-5. Flood waters will be
deep and swift in some areas. Flooding will occur all along the
river including headwaters... tributarieas... and other streams
within and near the Chehalis river Basin. A stage of 72 feet
corresponds to a phase iii flood in the Lewis County flood system.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Newaukum river nr Chehalis
* until Friday morning.
* At 9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 11.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.5 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring. The forecast is for minor flooding.
* Forecast... the river has crested and will continue to fall to below
flood stage Friday morning.
* Impact... at 10.5 feet... flood waters will inundate many roads and
residential and commercial areas along the Newaukum river and its
Forks. Flooding in some areas may be deep and hazardous especially
near rivers. Impacted roadways and surrounding areas include
Jackson Hwy. And tune... rush... Sommerville... griel... Hamilton...
tauscher... guerrier... Kirkland... Macomber... Rice... senn... Lucas
creek... Middle Fork and North Fork roads. A stage of 10.5 on the
Newaukum roughly corresponds to phase 2 flood in the Lewis County
flood system.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Skookumchuck river near Centralia
* until Friday evening.
* At 9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 86.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 85.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring. The forecast is for major
flooding.
* Forecast... the river will continue to rise and crest near 87.0 feet
around 10 PM Thursday. The river will fall below flood stage Friday
afternoon.
* Impact... at 86.9 feet... the Skookumchuck river will cause major
flooding in Centralia and the surrounding area. The river will
flood many roads and residential areas and cover much of the
farmland in the Skookumchuck River Valley. Flooding will occur all
along the river including headwaters... tributaries... and other
streams within and near the Skookumchuck river Basin. A stage of
86.9 feet corresponds to a phase iii flood in the Lewis County
Flood Warning system.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Skookumchuck river near Bucoda
* until late Friday night.
* At 9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 17.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 13.5 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring. The forecast is for major flooding.
* Forecast... the river crested at 17.7 feet at 3 PM Thursday and will
continue to fall to below flood stage Friday afternoon.
* Impact... at 17.0 feet... the Skookumchuck river in Thurston County
will cause major flooding in the Bucoda area... with deep and swift
flood waters inundating residential and business areas and numerous
roads. Flooding will occur all along the river including
headwaters... tributaries... and other streams within and near the
Skookumchuck river basin.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Cowlitz river at Randle
* until Friday afternoon.
* At 9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 21.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring. The forecast is for moderate
flooding.
* Forecast... the river has crested and will continue to fall to below
flood stage Friday morning.
* Impact... at 20.0 feet... the Cowlitz river will cause flooding from
the vicinity of Randle downstream through Riffe Lake... inundating
many roads including US Highway 12 and much of The Farm lands.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Deschutes river near Rainier
* from 10 am Wednesday until Friday morning.
* At 8:15 PM Thursday the stage was 11.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Impact... at 11.0 feet... the Deschutes river will flood downstream
in Tumwater valley including The Golf Course. Minor flooding will
also occur in several residential areas... mainly Cougar Mountain
and Driftwood valley. Many roads and farm lands will also be
flooded.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Nisqually river near National
* from 7 am Wednesday until Friday afternoon.
* At 9:00 PM Thursday the stage was 9.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Impact... at 10.0 feet... the Nisqually river will flood roads and
pasture lands along the upper reaches of the river from Mt Rainier
National Park downstream to Alder Lake.
