Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, March 20, 2010.
Wet weather will return to eastern Asia on Saturday as a low pressure system develops over northeastern China. Flow around the system will pick up moisture from the East China Sea and Yellow Sea and will feed energy into the system. Thus, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over northeastern China and the Korean Peninsula. By evening a front will develop over the Sea of Japan and stretch over most of Japan. Expect Tokyo to remain south of this front under mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s(F)/ lower 20s(C). Seoul, however, will see rainy conditions with highs in the mid-50s(F)/ lower teens(C). This system will also spread moisture into north-central China, triggering overcast skies with light sprinkles. Beijing will remain under scattered showers with highs near 50(F)/ 10(C).
Behind this system, a strong ridge of high pressure will build over China. This will allow for dry conditions and sunny skies. Expect a few lingering clouds to develop in Shanghai will highs in the upper 50s(F)/ mid-teens(C). Hong Kong will be sunny with highs near 80(F)/ 26(C).
In Australia, Tropical Cyclone Ului will persist on its westward track toward Queensland. This system will remain a category 1 storm with winds ranging from 74-95 mph and intense rainfall. Expect maximum wave heights near 26 feet. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will see warm and dry weather as high pressure dominates the weather. Expect Sydney to see mostly sunny skies with highs approaching 90(F)/ 32(C).
