Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, March 21, 2010.

Most of Asia will see a break in wet weather on Sunday. One strong system will be exiting the region in the east, while another low will start developing in the west. A strong low pressure system that brought periods of heavy rain to the countries surrounding the Sea of Japan the past few days will continue to move northeastward and away from the country. The system will move over the Kuril Islands and into the Sea of Okhotsk. A front that developed from this system and extended over Japan will quickly move offshore. Tokyo, however, will see some lingering showers with highs in the lower 60s(F)/ mid-teens(C). The rest of the regions surrounding the Sea of Japan will return to dry conditions. Seoul will see a few patchy clouds with highs in the lower 40s(F)/ near 6(C).

Meanwhile, in China, a strong ridge of high pressure will build over the country as a low pressure system develops over Mongolia and stretches into the Tibetan Plateau. Thus, Beijing and Shanghai will remain sunny with highs in the lower 50s(F)/ lower teens(C), while Hong Kong will also see mostly sunny skies with highs near 80(F)/ 26(C).

In Australia, Tropical Cyclone Ului will continue moving toward Queensland. It will reach land on Sunday and will lose much of its strength as it leaves the warm ocean waters, thus, the system will reduce to tropical storm strength with winds between 39-73 mph. Periods of heavy rainfall is expected over northeastern Australia as this storm has ample moisture associated with it. Otherwise, the rest of the country will remain warm and dry. Sydney will be sunny again on Sunday with highs approaching 90(F)/ 32(C).
