Rainfall warning for: St. John's and vicinity Avalon Peninsula North Avalon Peninsula southeast Avalon Peninsula southwest Clarenville and vicinity Bonavista Peninsula Terra Nova Bonavista North. Rainfall accumulations of 50 to 80 millimetres have been observed over portions of the Avalon Peninsula. 20 to 30 millimetres have been reported elsewhere. A further 5 to 10 millimetres of rain is expected early this morning. This is a warning that significant rainfall is occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements. Snow squall watch for: channel-port aux basques and vicinity Bay St. George Corner Brook and vicinity Gros Morne parson's pond - hawke's Bay. Rainfall warning ended for: Gander and vicinity Burin Peninsula connaigre. Wind warning ended for: St. John's and vicinity Avalon Peninsula North Clarenville and vicinity Bonavista Peninsula. Winds have eased to below warning criteria. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ==Discussion== a low pressure system over southeastern Labrador will continue to move off to the northwest today. A cold southwesterly flow is sweeping across Newfoundland behind this low. Snow squalls will develop along the west and southwest coasts of Newfoundland today. These squalls have the potential to produce local significant snowfall amounts and reduced visibilities in blowing snow. The public is advised to monitor subsequent forecasts as warnings may need to be issued. Over eastern Newfoundland rain at times heavy will persist early this morning before tapering off or changing to flurries. Further rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 millimetres are expected.
