Severe Weather Bulletin issued by Environment Canada at 5:13 am NST Monday 13 February 2012. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Watches/warnings in effect for Newfoundland... Snow squall warning for: =new= channel-port aux basques and vicinity =new= Bay St. George =new= Corner Brook and vicinity =new= Gros Morne =new= parson's pond - hawke's Bay. Snow squalls will develop today and persist tonight. Total snowfall amounts will range from 10 cm to locally 30 cm in snow squalls. Strong southwesterly winds will develop today giving reduced visibility in blowing snow. Snow squall watch for: =new= Burin Peninsula =new= connaigre =new= Burgeo to ramea =new= Port Saunders and The Straits. Flurries and snow squalls will develop today and persist overnight. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Watches/warnings ended for Newfoundland... Rainfall warning ended for: St. John's and vicinity Avalon Peninsula North Avalon Peninsula southeast Avalon Peninsula southwest Clarenville and vicinity Bonavista Peninsula Terra Nova Bonavista North. Rain has eased or ended. Significant additional amounts are not expected. Snow squall watch ended for: channel-port aux basques and vicinity Bay St. George Corner Brook and vicinity Gros Morne parson's pond - hawke's Bay. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ==Discussion== an intense low pressure system off the Labrador coast will bring cold air and strong southwesterly winds over Newfoundland today and tonight. Flurries and snow squalls will develop where southwesterly winds blow off the open waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. These squalls will cause local significant snowfall amounts and reduced visibilities in blowing snow. The public is advised to monitor subsequent forecasts as further warnings may need to be issued.
